The towering skyscrapers come to mind when you think of New York City, but scattered throughout the city are stunning parks and gardens that make it even more beautiful. Midtown Manhattan boasts some of the best parks and gardens with plenty of green space. They are the perfect reprieve from the hectic concrete jungle. When staying at the Concorde Hotel, take a moment to stroll through these beautiful parks and gardens in Midtown Manhattan.

Bryant Park

As one of the busiest parks in Manhattan, there is plenty to see and do throughout the year. More than 12 million people visit the park yearly to admire the seasonal displays, enjoy the amenities, and participate in the classes. The park sits in front of the New York Public Library, giving the park a literary feel. There are over 7,000 square feet of plant beds in the park and another 10,000 square feet surrounding the park. The Bryant Park Chill Grill, Joe Coffee Company, The Porch, Wafels & Dinges, and Le Pain Quotidien are open year-round. During the winter months, Bryant Park is taken over by a Winter Village. Visitors can enjoy ice skating, shopping, and seasonal events. The park hosts concerts and performances of Shakespeare, opera, and ballet during the summer. You can visit Bryant Park by taking a 20-minute walk from the Concorde Hotel.

The Channel Gardens

A thoughtful approach is taken to the curating of Rockefeller Center’s Channel Gardens. It’s a corridor nestled in the heart of Midtown. There are two wide walkways down either side. Down the center are the gardens. In the warm months, there are water features with fountain mermen. The gardens routinely change with seasonal installations. Some of the past installations include an Easter display of lilies, tulips, oversized eggs, and brightly colored sheep with bodies made from different blooms. The entire space was once turned into a Hawaiian garden with tikis and ferns. In the fall, there are pumpkins and harvest plants. Winter brings a holiday display with lights. You can visit the Channel Gardens by making a 13-minute walk from the Concorde Hotel.

Tudor City Greens

People from all over the city head to Midtown East to see the old-world architecture of the famous Tudor City apartment buildings. The Tudor-inspired design evokes elegance and charm. When staying at the Concorde Hotel, you can visit the park with just over a 20-minute walk. The park has a cozy feel with tall, dense trees, and plenty of seating. While the Tudor City Gardens are technically private to the residents of Tudor City, they are often open to the public. It is the perfect spot for admiring the architecture of the surrounding buildings. During spring, there are plenty of blooms to enjoy. Take your lunch and enjoy a peaceful outdoor meal.

Greeley Square Park and Herald Square Park

These two parks mirror each other, sitting on opposite sides of 6th Ave. Herald Square Park is named after the once-famed New York Herald newspaper. The park has a monument to James Bennet, the founder of the publication. The monument includes a sculpture and the clock that once sat atop the Herald building. The bronze statute includes Minerva, the goddess of wisdom and invention, and two bronze bell ringings. Known as "Stuff and Guff" or "Gog and Magog" have chimed the hours ever since. Greeley Square Park is named after the political leader and editor Horace Greeley. He launched the New York Tribune publication. Located in the park is a bronze monument honoring Greeley. Both parks are a 15-minute drive from the Concorde Hotel in the heart of the old newspaper and printing district. They serve as the perfect mini escape from the hustle of the city. There are paved walkways, potted blooming plants, and plenty of seating. Sit with a cup of coffee at one of the cute cafe tables and people-watch.

Ford Foundation Center Garden

Located inside the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice is a garden oasis. The atrium garden is open to the public and is a favorite place to visit for locals. This multi-level garden features about 40 species of shrubs, trees, and vines. Feel yourself slow down as you make your way by the reflecting pool and fountain. Head to the sensory section of the garden for a chance to interact with the plants. The glass ceiling soaring above helps to bring light that filters through the trees for a dappled look.
